Eye of the Sixties Third Thursday Salon with Judith Stein at the Da Vinci Art Alliance

  • Da Vinci Art Alliance 704 Catharine Street Philadelphia, PA, 19147 United States (map)

Journey back to the early sixties, to the beginning of the market for contemporary art in New York, when the art dealer and tastemaker Richard Bellamy (1927-98) made history but chose not to make money. At the fabled Green Gallery on Fifty-Seventh Street, Bellamy launched the careers of today’s iconic Pop, Op and conceptual artists, mavericks and minimalists, Claes Oldenburg and James Rosenquist, Donald Judd and Dan Flavin, Mark di Suvero and George Segal. Join Judith Stein as she brings alive a posterity-averse beatnik with a legendary eye, a tale that unfolds as postmodernism elbowed the past aside.
